It was exactly 25 years that first dot com domain was registered. In those days the dot com boom was not so much popular and hence a handful of people owned domain names. Computer manufacturer Symbolics Inc registered their domain name Symbolics.com today. In 1986 only 5 other domains were registered.
Today i.e. in 2010 there are nearly 90 million dot com addresses registered. The registry handler Verisign who handles the registry of Dot com domains say that nearly half a million dot coms are registered each week now a days.
To celebrate this day Verisign have even set up a website named as 25yearsof.com.The oldest website still is alive but now owned by a Company named as XF Investment company. If you want to see the old Symbolics.com website you will have to visit its new home symbolics-dks.com which was registered in 2009 after Symbolics Inc sold their website to XF Investment Company.
