Remove Sponsored Links in Gmail in Firefox and Chrome

While using Gmail, most of you would have observed the sponsored links on the right most side of your email inbox. These links are basically text advertisements related to content in your email messages i.e. if your get an email message about a Formula 1 Race, the links would probably related to race tickets, hotel accommodation or something similar.

Google, the provider of Gmail, uses these advertisements to generate revenue for all the free services that it provides. It is not that these ads hinder with your usage, but sometimes they do annoy the users leaving users with no choice but to remove these sponsored links from Gmail permanently. In this article we would be discussing the best possible way to remove these sponsored links from your Gmail Inbox.

Gmail doesn’t provide an option to turn off these sponsored links, so we have to rely on browser supported addons and scripts to solve our purpose. These addons block the connections to Google Adservers, thus displaying a white space instead of normal text advertisements.

Rapportive: Best Addon to Remove Sponsored Links from Gmail Inbox

Of all the addons, our favorite is Rapportive. It not only removes the Gmail ads but also replaces them with the contact information about the sender of the mail. Whenever you receive an email, Rapportive cross references the email address of the sender of the mail with several social networking websites and then fills up the ad space with all the gathered information. This information may include the image of the sender, his brief biography, his latest tweets and other info.

Once you install Rapportive it will ask your name and email address to configure itself and get started. Rapportive does not have access to your password, but does access you email content to provide the service.

Make sure that you tell us about your experience of using Rapportive in the comments section.
