Bolt won the 200 m
gold and completed the double at the Beijing Olympics today. (Carl Lewis was the last man to achieve this feat at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.) Not only did he win the race but win it in style. He ran the 200 m distance in record time of 19.30 sec, 0.02 seconds clear of Michael Johnson’s 12 year record of 19.32 seconds. You can see it in the Usain Bolt 200m Record at Beijing Olympics Video that has been displayed below.
He did not take this one as easy as he took the 100 m win. He was well clear of the field but still he dipped for the line. His intentions from the start were very clear as was evident from his eager looks at the timing clock as he finished the race.
Bolt will be celebrating his birthday tomorrow. What a wonderful present has he gifted himself and his country.
Two of the top three finishers were disqualified for running outside their lane and therefore Shawn Crawford (fourth) won silver while Walter Dix (fifth) won the bronze.
The 200 m record
19.30 Usain Bolt
19.32 Michael Johnson
19.62 Tyson Gay
19.63 Xavier Cater
19.65 Wallace
19.67 Usain Bolt
