As mentioned in our previous post in March , Airtel decided to upgrade the users speed to double for free , they implemented first phase of results way back in April when the consumers on 256Kbps lines were given 512Kbps. Some of my friends who had Airtel Broadband with them told me about their speed increase as well.
As mentioned in another earlier post, Airtel also offered 4Mbps speeds at the cheapest rate of Rs899 per month which was unbelievable as well. When we checked out the offers we were shocked to see that consumers will be able to get 4Mbps plans for mere 6Gb and post 6Gb they will get pathetic 256kbps speeds only.
With June in full swing Airtel has once again made changes to their tariff structure, here in lucknow their old plans namely Home 599, Starter 649, Swift 1099, Explorer 1299, etc have all vanished and new plans have been introduced. If you have not yet seen the new plans then have a look below.
Although these plans mention that you are getting unlimited data transfer but the reality is a bit different. You can get full speed up to these limits only i.e. in Impatience 1299 plan you would get 20Gb of high speed data and after that your speed will be capped to 256kbps.
This has been done in all unlimited plans. Speeds have been increased by fair margins but download limits on that high speeds have been reduced considerably. You are not expected to download any thing from internet if you want to use your Broadband data connection from Airtel. In countries like Korea where end consumers are getting 50Mbps household connections without any data cap , Indian ISP’s are providing this sort of plans , how can we expect our broadband speed to be 2Mbps on an average when ISP do not want user to use data lines.
Bottom Line
DO Not UPGRADE/DEGRADE your broadband plans this month because your will get affected by the policy of Airtel. If you are a heavy downloader then you should let your plan continue. I am currently using Starter 649 plan and getting 512Kbps constant speed , with Rs 100 worth talktime and unlimited bandwidth on 512Kbps line so I would not change my plan to any other plan. What is your point of view on this matter.
