The Round Trip

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

We are in 21st century and seeing the rate at which technology has developed in the recent years it seems that it won’t be long before machines start replacing us humans at every step of life, somewhat similar to what was shown in Terminator movie:The rise of Machines. Human would make machine so powerful that they would be capable of thinking for themselves and then later machines would take over human race as some dictator would do.
We would then find ourselves in the same position as we were 2000 years back hunting animals and eating grasses, sacred of big animals for our life. However the difference this time would be that we will be scared of machines and not animals. We would be absolutely helpless and won’t be able to do anything because when this time comes we would actually be so dependent on machines that we would find waking up as hard as job as breaking a rock.
To avoid such a situation I think humans should focus more on machines that could be run purely on mechanical power and not require any electrical power as it is highly unlikely that a machine with absolute functionality as mechanical power would be able to hurt any of humans

Racing @ 10 KMPH

Monday, April 28th, 2008

I know most of you envy watching Rossi and Stoner race at speeds of over 250 kmph. Race is full of thrill and excitement and is a pure adrenalin rush for both the racer and the fan that is attending the race at the track side as a spectator. These races are take place at purpose built tracks which allows racers to achieve speeds as high as 320 kmph on tracks like Monza.

But have you ever thought about a bike race at the speed of 10 kmph. No its not a race in which the person who comes last wins. It is bike racing on loose sand and loose gravel. I and my friends do it on alternate weekends. The place where this race takes place is about 65 km from our town. We are a group of 8 people and we drive our bikes to the place. None of the bikes have been modified so that no one gets any kind of advantage. We race 2 laps of 200 m each on the track and the winner takes home 200$ as the prize money. This money is purely contributed by us.

We do this for excitement and believe me it is in no way less than excitement gained by racing at higher speeds. The excitement levels are highest at the start and finish line. We have to accelerate very carefully so that we get linear motion out of our tires and not only rotational motion. Most of us dig big holes before moving an inch. In the middle part of race, it gets really hard to control the bike as it begins to move at its own will, rarely in the direction the rider wants it to go. It is great fun to drive a bike like this. It requires some skill and bit of luck to win a race on loose soil. I have won 2 races till now and I hope this weekend I can add another victory to this tally.

A Person Too Big, A Blog Too Small

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

Standing at 7 feet 3 inches tall, he is the largest active athlete in the world. We here take opportunity to have our say on the man that most of us wouldn’t want as our enemy. He is WWE wrestler The Great Khali and is more than 7 feet tall and weighs over 420 pounds.
He belongs to India. He used to work for Punjab police when the then commissioner of police spotted his talent and guided him towards body building world. He already had tremendous height and with his hard work he developed a figure that would impress everybody. It was this figure that brought him the crown of Mr. India.
Now life has moved on and so has Great Khali. He is a former WWE champion and has been in t=his field of wrestling and body building for over 15 years now. When you compare his mammoth career with that’s of our blog only one phrase comes to mind. A person too big, a blog too small.
The great Khali has defeated nearly everybody that has faced him in the WWE including Undertaker, Batista, Kane, John Cena, Rey Mysterio and many more. At backlash, 27th April he faces yet another challenge, probably the biggest of his career, the Big Show. Big Show is just a bit short on height but 50 pounds heavier on weight. In this makes this contest so much more interesting. Well looking back at the history of WWE at crunch matches like when crowd’s sentiment are equally attached(Great Khali will be visiting India after Backlash) with both the wrestlers they try to find a middle way and most of the times these matches end either in disqualification or no result. Let’s hope that the match is decided on merit.

Cricket Beyond Cricket

Friday, April 25th, 2008

Cricket these days is getting shorter and shorter just like modern dresses. We started with 6 day test matches, moved on to 5 day test matches, then on to 50over cricket and now we stand at 20-20 matches.  Going by this if we were asked to guess the type of cricket that would be played 15 years from now we would say probably the match would end at toss itself. The captain who wins the toss will be declared the winner of the match and the cricket would be called as toss-toss or zero-zero cricket. This would also ensure that cricket makes it to Olympics and other major events. Also it would ensure that every team has equal opportunity to win.
But that’s probably way ahead in future. In present we are observing huge changes in the acceptance of results. We have already seen people hitting team mates with cricket bat and we are seeing people slapping there national team pals. Whatever is happening is purely ridiculous, unprofessional and needs to be sorted out pretty quickly. Not only this the hype that media builds around tournaments like IPL has to taken under some constraints.
Yes there is always some friction between players I matches and only increases with the pressure of performance. The pressure is greater still when you have been hit out of national team’s captaincy and you get a chance to prove yourself as one. Above all one has to understand that if a dead cricket field can have boundaries why peoples that are indulged in the game can’t have boundaries for their personal behavior.

My Laptop Just Got Legs

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

Got a new stand for my laptop. It is just a bit tilted and has fans in it to throw hot air. Previously the laptop was on parallel surface and as such there I thought it wasn’t good enough to meet the cooling needs that a laptop requires or deserves. Come on every thing in laptop is so closely packed that there is hardly a part in lappi that doesn’t cry for optimum temperature.  You can’t have an ac every where and I don’t have it at my home. So the stand was necessary and I bought it cost me $ 9 so it wasn’t heavy on pocket as well.
I think it was a wise decision on my part in order to increase the life of my laptop. I would suggest all my readers to go for this stand because laptops are normally made to things that they are really not supposed to and as a result the get over heated . They should get some relief as well. They are not supposed to work for the durations that humans work for. at least I don’t think so .
So try and give your laptop a new life or at least think about it .

World Of Women

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

Times have changed and how dramatically they have. the world of relationship is no longer dominated by man but it is women that are realizing their actual worth. The women have absolutely no moral pressure to stay in a relationship just because it is virtuous. Today’s women have a separate identity and it is not dependent on the man they are with. They prefer dumping rather than being dumped.  The media is full of this kind of news. Be it Yuvraj, be it Shahid or Salman, all have been dumped by women. Things have somehow changed when nobody was looking. Women have started to have a say in relationship. According to them their career, goals are of prime importance
Some days back when Raima Sen was seen with Yuvraj sing and asked about it she said that just because someone wants to write about her she will not stop being friends with someone but for dating and relationship it will have to give her some space to my career and goals otherwise would be more happy in ending the relationship.
See everything in the world has a cycle be it water which evaporates, condenses and rains or be it the social cycle which goes from feudal phase to traditional phase to modern phase. Some women have gone to extent saying that after a certain point of time a man no longer remains the top priority. So men better be careful and start respecting women.

3 Days To Go

Monday, April 21st, 2008

Spanish’s Formula 1 Grand Prix is just three days away. It has to be the most anticipated race of the season coz it could very well be three way battle for pole on Sunday with Ferrari roaring, BMW catching up and McLaren, though struggling, but already there. Recent testing hasn’t helped any which way for fans to even take a guess that who is going to win but it has to be the best time for Ferrari with Massa back in form and Raikonen already driving like a champ.f11.jpgHamilton has only disappointed in the last two races after a victory in Australian GP, Kovalinen is getting to pace as well. But it’s probably not their fault. McLaren has struggled in the last two races. They haven’t been up to the level which they managed last year but that is expected as they no longer have the Ferrari’s information to get their cars running as fast as Ferrari.

Talking of BMW they have certainly met the expectations. Robert Kubica has been a revelation. He, with his aggressive driving not only managed pole at Bahrain but also won many a hearts. Nick is going great guns as well and is second in the driver’s championship while BMW is first in the constructor’s championship.

Spanish GP has always been very interesting, last year Massa won here. Let us see whether his stars are lucky this time around as well.

A Worthy Start

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

This was the exact beginning Lalit Modi would have been hoping for. A jam packed crowd, all waiting to see some great T-20 action. The series opener was nothing short of a spectacle, or let us say it this way an astonishing 158* by Brendon McCallum made it look like one.
It’s not first time that a team has scored over 200 runs in a T-20 match but just the way Brendon batted made it look seriously ahead of all other innings that have ever been played in T-20 history. It should be rated at par with Yuvraj Singh’s effort against England at the T-20 world cup.18-04_5.jpg
The Kolkata knight riders managed to score 222 runs of their allotted 20 overs. The Bangalore royal challengers it seemed weren’t very keen in putting up any kind of show and scored only 82 runs to lose by 140 runs.
Before the match started Vijay Malaya put up a great show with music of the best quality, he even brought his Force India F1 car to the stadium.
While it was a no show on the side of RC one thing that everyone would agree with is that the batting was way tougher under lights and even Sourav was able to swing the ball more than Warne would turn it on a similar track. We hope for a better show from RC next time and hope that KKR maintain their good show.

Cricket Fever

Friday, April 18th, 2008

IPL begins today. Every news channel is telecasting the news of IPL. At this point of time hardly 8 hours away from the first ball I can safely say that this is going to be one big hit, 45 days of pure entertainment. I can’t wait to see some great players playing against their own team mates. cricket_ball_and_stumps_203x1521.jpg
Well 3 hours is all it takes out of your busy schedule to tune into a match and when local feelings are attached to it becomes that much easier to associate with the team. Any ways millions have already been invested and its time that those who have invested start getting their benefits. However it doesn’t really hold true for all of them, some have just done it for pride and honor .take the example of Mukesh Ambani, he is the world’s 5th richest man. He doesn’t need to diversify into buying cricket clubs but since he is a mumbaikar he did it for pride.
Some of the owners did it purely for money like Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, he has spent more than 4 times what he earns as an actor per year and off lately he hasn’t been doing a lot of movies as well. But one thing that can be safely said after ten years when he would be at the end of his career as a young hero is that he would have more money out of IPL than anybody else because he is an excellent marketing expert.
I hope with all this money raining the standard of cricket raises high as well.
