Here are the last three laps of the Belgium Formula 1 Grand Prix…
Formula 1 saw one of its best ever races unfold as the 44 intriguing laps at the Spa circuit went by. With every passing lap the race seemed to move either way. It was a truly an enthralling battle that lasted the entire race distance.
The race started off with Lewis Hamilton on Pole and Massa on P2 but the start belonged to the Flying Finn Kimi Raikkonen. He overtook Massa on Lap 1 and Hamilton on Second lap and maintained his lead until two laps from the finish. An accident saw his departure from the second place.
Hamilton was the first to cross the finish line with Massa nearly 14.5 seconds behind. Heifield came a further ten seconds later.
However after having a look at the video evidence Race Stewards decided to give Hamilton a retrospective drive through penalty and deducted 25 seconds from his actual time as a result of which Massa inherited the race win and Heifield the second place.
Lewis was demoted to third place, a result which McLaren have decided to challenge.
Timo Glock was also awarded a penalty of 25 seconds and finished outside points.
However it was a real heart breaker for Kimi Raikkonen.
He raced so brilliantly and was looking sure for a win but it was never to be. Rain came down heavily and there was no way in the world that he and Hamiltoncould have driven as fast as they were trying to. After a series of moments Kimi finally crashed into the wall.
He went out pointless for the second consecutive race and now faces an uphill challenge to get back into the drivers’ championship. He is 19 points behind the Hamilton and 17 points behind Massa.
With the penalty Massa has come within 2 points of Lewis in the world championship but with McLaren favoring tracks like Monza and Fuji coming up, he is sure to have a hard time in making up the points.
